Wofoo Millennium Entrepreneurship Programme (MEP XVI)

16th Wofoo Millennium Entrepreneurship Program

Our team, which consisted of six Form 5 students, has won a Merit Award in the 16th Wofoo Millenium Entrepreneurship Program after keen competition with the teams coming from other 11 secondary schools.

The competition required each team to devise ways to revitalize a traditional Hong Kong culture. They needed to write a proposal to introduce and promote that particular culture with their products and manage their costs with a budget. Our proposal was called ‘Hakkagin Health & Beauty’ selling Hakkagin snacks in a shop. Under the guidance of Mr. Dennis Lam CMA, CFM, CPA(US), CPA(HK), MBA, Chief Financial Officer of Mass Noble Investments Ltd., our team decided to revitalize ‘chaguo’, a traditional Hakkagin sticky rice cake, by adding new ingredients like dried red dates, dried lagoons, etc. into the fillings and using Japanese and Korean packaging to attract customers with high purchasing power and high demands for health and beauty.

In the final round, our team displayed their posters, sales stalls and products and explained their designs to the audience. The judges and guests thought their proposal was feasible as they used drama to present their ideas clearly and showed the ingredients of their products through cooking demonstration, posters, and display boards.

After the competition, our team members said that they had learned how to run a business. They also realized their responsibility to preserve and pass on our traditional cultures and at the same time help the underprivileged so as to maintain sustainable social development.
