Our school's Chinese History Department recently co-organised the "Song Elegance, Cantonese Melodies: Song Ci and Cantonese Opera Experience Class" with Shui Yuet Opera Stage (水月戲臺), culminating in a school-based Cantonese opera performance, Yu Lou Chun (玉樓春), in the school hall. Teachers and students performed together, bringing to life the poem by Li Yu, the last ruler of the Southern Tang, and recreating the splendour of his court while reflecting on the rise and fall of dynasties.

Under the guidance of professional instructors, teachers and students in elaborate traditional costumes performed alongside a slide presentation explaining the poem's background. The students showed confident stage presence, clear delivery and excellent teamwork, earning warm applause from the audience.

The experience class blended Chinese history, classical poetry and Cantonese opera, allowing students to appreciate traditional art first-hand and deepen their understanding of the period. We sincerely thank Shui Yuet Opera Stage for their support, and will continue to promote cross-curricular learning and Chinese cultural education, encouraging students to build on this success.
